Lead VPK Teacher
Grades: Pre-Kindergarten (VPK)
The Lead VPK Teacher is the backbone of our early childhood program and leads our overall classroom experience and culture. This role involves planning and implementing a developmentally appropriate instructional program that encourages students to fulfill their academic and social potential. You will provide a safe environment designed to promote social, physical, and intellectual growth in accordance with Florida VPK standards. The Lead Teacher provides day-to-day supervision of students and classroom staff, develops individual goals for students, and encourages parent involvement. This role takes direction from the Principal and Assistant Principal.
Employment Status and Schedule:
This is a full-time, exempt, year-round position.
Teachers must be in the classroom to greet students at 8:00 AM and stay
on campus until 3:00 PM. Teachers may utilize their planning period
before school (7:00 AM to 8:00 AM), after school (3:00 PM to 4:00 PM),
or at home. We view teachers as professionals and trust you will manage
your planning time effectively.

- Identify and select accommodating instructional techniques to meet students' varying needs which may include:
- Review the Individualized Education Program (IEP) & medical records of our students.
- Record all pertinent information, including but not limited to: allergies, any medical conditions and behavior concerns.
- Review this information with the Teaching Assistant and make it available for reference.
- Adhere to accommodations/modifications listed on Student Needs Overview
- Communicate with students, parents, therapists, and other professionals regarding student progress.
- Manage student behavior in the classroom by establishing and enforcing rules and procedures and applying appropriate disciplinary measures where necessary.
- Student Accommodations and Success
Identify instructional techniques to meet varying needs, including reviewing medical records or Individual Educational Plans (IEP) for students with disabilities.
Record and manage information regarding allergies, medical conditions, and behavior concerns.
Coordinate with the Teaching Assistant to ensure all student needs are met.
Communicate regularly with parents and therapists regarding student progress.
Manage classroom behavior by establishing age-appropriate routines and positive reinforcement.
- Supervision and Evaluation
Provide direction and mentorship to the Teaching Assistant.
Maintain a clean and organized classroom environment.
Plan and attend field trips and school events that correspond to the VPK program.
Schedule parent conferences each semester or as needed.
Strong oral and written communication skills and basic computer proficiency.
High energy, patience, and flexibility to work with young children.
Ability to foster a team environment with staff and parents.
Consistent, reliable, and punctual attendance is essential.
Commitment to providing a safe environment in alignment with school handbooks.
Education & Certifications:
Eligible candidates must meet the following requirements:
Required: Completion of the DCF 45-hour introductory child care training.
Required: Current VPK Director Credential or a valid Florida Professional Educator’s Certificate in a relevant area (Pre-K, Preschool Education, Primary Education, or Family and Consumer Science).
Preferred: A Child Development Associate (CDA) or a Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field.
Preferred: Current certification in First Aid and CPR.
